The Spiderwick Chronicles is a 2008 American fantasy film directed by Mark Waters from a screenplay by Karey Kirkpatrick, David Berenbaum, and John Sayles. The film is based on the book series of the same name by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. It stars Freddie Highmore, Mary-Louise Parker, Nick Nolte, Sarah Bolger, and Martin Short.
The film follows the Grace family as they move from Brooklyn, New York, to their ancestral home in the countryside. Soon after arriving, the children discover a secret world of fairies and other magical creatures. They must band together to protect their new home from the evil Mulgarath, who is seeking to destroy all fairies.
